If you have an existing heating system a small underfloor heating area can be added. Suitable places include bathrooms, extensions and conservatories
Normally existing boilers have sufficient capacity to cope with the increased load.
We sell two basic types of floor heating system which are plumbed into the existing central heating:
This underfloor heating system will come on with the rest of the central heating. It cannot 'call' the boiler independently.
The water in the underfloor pipe is temperature controlled by use of a 'return temperature limiter' valve.
This is the least expensive option but it is not suitable for under a wooden floor and the underfloor pipes must be set into screed.
The kit works off a two pipe central heating circuit and is not suitable for whole house operation
This system can call the boiler independently of the main heating so that the heat can remain on in an extension or conservatory when the rest of the house is shut off.
It is controlled by a timer and a thermostat in the room and the water temperature in the underfloor pipes is controlled by a mixer valve. There is also a separate pump which is activated by the timer thermostat.
Here the main flow and return pipes must be taken back to the boiler as this system is not suitable for plumbing into the local central heating pipes.
This system is so controllable that it is suitable for any type of floor.
The ground floor must be well insulated and 60mm of high value polyurethane floor insulation is recommended. If the floor is to be screeded then a further 75mm of screed is required. The pipes are laid in the screed.
The heating pipes can also be laid below a timber floor. Insulation is required between the joists.
Follow the diagram supplied with your kit. The pipe is marked in metres to aid cutting to the right length.
Simply lay the barrier pipe onto the floor insulation using clips or onto thin weld mesh over the floor insulation and tie into place. Bring all the tails to the chosen manifold position.
After pressure testing screed is laid over the pipes to depth of 65-75mm.
Allow new floor screed to dry out before heating the floor.
